Blue Jacket Books recently held an Edgar Allen Poe night.

The night had...

It started off with the owner, Elizabeth Svendson, introducing Poe

And reading "The Black Cat"

Samantha Siemer was next with "Haunted Houses"

Followed by Rosi Mackey

"Who read The Haunted Oak" by Paul Lawrence Dunbar

 

The Tell-Tale Heart, a Poe classic was next

Read by Rod Varner

The Dead Call was read by Cathy Bengson

Finally, we ended with Poe's most notable work

The Raven, read by Al Yarcho

Even though none of these stories were for little ones

There were stories in the children's corner

Refreshments were also served

And a centerpiece was donated from the Flower Stop

We had a great turnout

But to Quote the raven, this event is "Nevermore!"

Alpacas

On a breezy Saturday in October, a local Alpaca Farm, Stewart Heritage Farm, had an open house to see, what else, the Alpacas!

Aren't they just so warm and fuzzy looking?

Well, I'm here to tell you that they definitely were.

This little one isn't very old and was sitting out, wanting to be fed hay and pet.

Next to it was a kids booth, that had a fun craft and a scavenger hunt.

Although I didn't do the scavenger hunt, the craft was fun. You took a bit of the alpaca wool and wrapped it around pieces of soap, making a little alpaca washcloth, that I would like you all to know is nice to have.

 Inside the fiber shed were some things for sale, like yarn and alpaca bears

Soap and other bathroom novelties

And some other stuffed toys

 Outside they were selling blankets and jewelry

As well as having wool spinning demonstrations

Ye Olde Trail Tavern was there if you were feeling a wee bit peckish

And you could sit and enjoy the North River Band while eating.

A great one day event to take the kids to. I hope to see it again soon.

 That's right, tomorrow is election day and what better free thing to do than go out and vote?

 The best way to have a say in what's going on in your City, State or Federal governments is by voting. As long as you are eighteen, a US citizen and registered you can go and vote.

 Voting is even important in movies! Have you seen the cult hit from a few years ago, Napoleon Dynamite? They had elections and people found it important to vote there too, even if it was just for school.

So please, go vote! The future of the world depends on it.
